I mean, yeah. I'd be shitscared of a team that made the conference finals last year with basically a downgraded version of Kyrie Irving in Jalen Brunson. Have they found their Robin to Luka's batman..? (Till the end of the season).
These two together immediately become the highest scoring 1-2 punch in the NBA, averaging 60.5 points between them. Anyone is going to have a tough time keeping these two at bay for 4 games out of 7. That is of course, if this all works out....
Aside from Kyrie's personal difficulties, on the court this is a match made in heaven. Luka is basically a younger (less athletic) version of the Lebron that Kyrie won a championship with so it would make sense that they can gel together on the court.
But it's roles reversed now in Dallas; Kyrie has more experience under his belt and is used to being the ball dominant guard. Brunson was critical off the bench and when Luka was out last year, but he didn't shine when they were on the court together. Here's hoping that J Kidd has sat Luka down and explained the importance of touches for Kyrie, so that they haven't lost their No.2 player in Dinwiddie for nothing come free agency in the summer.
Are the Mavs a WIN NOW team? Is it all or nothing this season?
If things don't work out with Uncle Drew before the end of the season, then the Mavs will be seen as yet another failed WIN NOW team as we'd probably be seeing Irving in purple and gold by the start of next season and the Mavs being left in the shit....
If they have a great season on the other hand; Kyrie is only 30 - he's got so many good years ahead of him and these two could build a real legacy together in Dallas.
It's the biggest trade in Mavs history, Cuban gambled and why not - You have to try. It's shaken the league and as a mavs fan it definitely shook me. Very excited to see how this works out. Go mavs.
